يمكن تقسيم المضخة من النوع HD إلى نوعين من الدفاعات: النوع الثابت والنوع القابل للتعديل. مضخة التدفق المختلط القابلة للتعديل، مع شفرات يمكن تعديل زاويتها. المكرهة من النوع الدائري تحتوي على شفرات ودفاعة موضوعة كواحد، ولا يمكن ضبط زاوية الشفرة.
